Africa – Bruised Banana. We'd gone on safari before in Nepal at Chitwan National Park to hunt for rhinoceros the year before, but with no luck. We saw these rhinoceros just as they were making their way into the lake at Pilanesberg. We saw a lot of animals in the wild that day on our self- drive safari. We were happy with the experience overall, preferring that over an expensive and structured safari experience at one of the other ..

Everywhere could be a tourist destination if it were properly marketed. Most tourist destinations are places you go to, stare at for a few moments, and then leave behind without revelation.

It’s helpful for our family to have a destination since we live out our human existence on a big sphere, but the destinations are never the most memorable or .. The time has gone by so quickly. Last night I looked out our bedroom window for the first time since we got here and wondered, Why is it so hard to look around and really see a place until it’s time to leave?

When I realized that we were being swindled, I said (in Arabic, with a few grammatical errors, but he still understood me), “Normally we pay 6. Why are we paying more today?” The man looked back at me sheepishly.

I’d called him out on his corruption. We were to meet her at the gate that faces the university at 2: 1. PM. Lydian and I arrived at the park at 1: 5. The Internet is running slow. The streets are eerily quiet. And we’re staying in to avoid any accidental brush with demonstrations.

But across the city, I see laundry hanging out to dry which reminds me that this city I’ve seen so many times in the news is a place inhabited by real people and not just sensationalized caricatures. And I had to come up with a reason. And then I had to then try to explain it in Arabic. When I got home, John asked me why I’ve seemed so pissy over the past few days (being male, he thinks it has something to do with him).

John`S Big Day

It’s nothing specific but everything in general. Lydi and I have classes three days of the week. Last week she made friends with some girls at the park, which means that this coming week will be busier yet. And tomorrow we’re going into the Western Desert on a trip that’s probably going to be visually stimulating but otherwise fairly low- key.

But subconsciously, I’m .. I’ve been jogging all over the world. It’s the time when John and I talk. It’s a time for me to catch up with Lydian. It’s when I think and meditate. It’s the time when I see the world around me as a place to play; to sweat and touch the ground, jump, hop, or just trek.

Some countries offer more Play Places or better jogging trails than ..

Adia and John's Big Day. It's official.. I'm getting married. For real, I have a big ole' ivory wedding gown to prove it. Before this month, my wedding has been all about plans, ideas and numbers but my dress solidifies everything. On August 1, my team of 4 and I went to the Annual Filene's Basement Running of the Brides Sale in Washington DC. I knew a lot of people would not be able to come because the event took place on a weekday when most had to work.

However, I was confidant that I would be able to secure a dress with the team I had- my junior bridesmaid/niece Ajae, my matron- of- honor, Wanda and my two bridesmaids/John's two sisters, Jennifer and Crystal. We went to the event full of enthusiasm and decked out in teal ribbed tanked tops with the words TEAM BBB (blessed bride- to- be or Barbados bride- to- be, you pick), team numbers and identifying acronyms from JB for the junior bridesmaid to BM to MOH. Although our intention was to arrive at 4 a.

At that point, the line wrapped around the mall building and from the back where we stood the entrance was no where in sight! As we waited in line we cut out magazine clips of the style/types of dresses I was looking for and created signs advertising the dress I wanted including the style and some major dress features like sweetheart neckline, fit- to- flare, etc. There were women there who seemed to bring their whole families as well as, those with only a friend or mom to help them. While we may not been the biggest team, we were pumped with excitement and when we were offered the chance to make up a cheer to win a wedding dress, we took the task seriously.

Wanda made up the cheer, wrote it down and we practiced while in line. It went: We are here to celebrate,Adia's wedding date! Running in, to Filene's to find a dress of her dreams. We're running in from side to side. We're going to get a dressfor our bride!!!!!!!!

We performed it well and even ended it with Jennifer comically doing the . Alas, in spite of our best efforts, we did not win a dress but it was fun and it just got our energy levels up and ready for the big . We brought our own mirror and camped out in area for me to try on clothes. While Wanda and I set up shop, Jennifer and Ajae ran to find dresses.

I stripped down to my tube top and swimming shorts, ready to try on dresses. Can I tell you that Jennifer was a true wedding dress warrior? She ran that store, finding and grabbing dresses like she was on one of those grocery shopping game shows. It wasn't long before we had a ton of dresses. Some for me to try on, others for bargaining purposes.

Wanda and I set up our own little mini wedding dress shop and people came up to us making offers, asking for certain sizes and styles and we wheeled and dealed like true pros. It seemed like I tried on about 1.

I know I was having a hard time finding . Luckily, it was around this time that people began finding their dresses and putting their stockload of hoarded dresses back on the racks. That's when we begin to see some nice dresses.

Jennifer and Crystal (bandaged foot, crutches and all!) were the main ones finding the dresses while the rest of us try to make sense of some of the madness in the store. Wanda went to zip it up in the back and guess what- I couldn't fit it. My heart nearly broke as I begged Wanda to use more muscle to get it closed. It just wasn't going to make it. At nearly 1. 1am, I tried on a dress and looking around at the tired and dejected faces of my team members, I decided I would get it. It was only $2. 50 and while it was not as pretty as the intial . At that point, my fatigue had set in and I just wanted the experience to be over and done with.

While in the midst of putting the other dresses away, I decided I had to try my favorite dress one more time before going to the register with the 2nd best. I even took off my girdle first so that I wouln't be so bulky. Low and behold- it fit and as soon as the zipper went up I knew I had to have it. Wanda was the voice of reason that told me I HAD TO get it or else I might have backed out, thinking it too good to be true. It's me and exactly what I was looking for- -the shape of it, the way I can move around in it and feel featherlight. I finally took it to John's mom house last week because I kept trying it on everyday, spinning around like a fairy princess!

I can't post pics of the dress because you're just going to have to come to Barbados to the wedding to see it. I do have plans to do some very subtle alterations to make it easier to dance in at the reception (I need a bustle) and some minor features to make the dress more customized specifically for me. So, I got the dress and we're having a wedding or else I am going to turn into one of those crazy folks wearing my dress downtown spinning around like a fairy princess.
